THRIVING FOR SUCCESS?!

I came across a magazine article the other day and someone said of themself, "I have a drive to succeed". My initial thought was 'Who doesn't?' Everyone in their small or big life wants to succeed, and for others its 'cameara and lights' and others its a kiss on their forehead. It seemed a bit silly to assume that others may not possess this drive. Are we not inherently build with 'drive'? e.g 'sex drive' LOL... Some people overwork themselves, sacrifice the love of family, partners, leisure for this drive to succeed, and some remain happy or complacent with not reaching their full potential. Does it really have to be complicated for all of us? I've been thinking Business lately, although my mind seems to be in a knot, forcing me to calm down and take stock. I love Books. I love Fashion. Even if I marginally succeed in both in the world of business,i'll be happy,my love is immovable. Doing what you love is a blessing and succeeding at it more so. Enough falling asleep at work and dealing with EGO's! Enough of the paycheck to paycheck mentality and existence! Let's do what we Love and take inspiration from those who do it everyday..Assign value to your own life because naturally you have the Drive!

  1. Oh! The wretched olive gloves!

Some people don't have the drive, and I see it in my little work experience. I see it in people who have been working at the same job for years that doesn't allow for growth; those who don't think outside the box; generally, those who don't take initiative.

Then there are those in the face of the recession, having lost their jobs, keep fighting, and believing that they will rise again, and continue to strive towards this.

This lack of drive is seen in the CEO who doesn't take leadership when his organisation is sinking and uses the same failing formula.

But also in our personal lives - when we keep relationships that have stopped giving value, and weigh us down, afraid to let go because of a perceived fear (you know exactly where this is coming from).

In both examples, the lack of drive to succeed doesn't come from a fear of failure, but a fear of success itself: the fear to succeed comes from a belief that success belongs to others, and not me, and that is why i don't have it.

And sadly, this drive cannot be taught.

But I'm preaching to the choir.

  3. Thank you both for the comments. Kat lets not even look at my hands..I hear what you are saying unfortunately it is all predetermined by external influences but i still believe we are born with it and maybe its up to each individual to decide how far they wanna go and set their own standard.

  4. Drive, love, Success _ exactly in that order.
Yes Sma we are all born with that particular drive yet some of us, maybe because of how we have been socialised or purely because we are afraid of realising our full potential and as you've exemplified end up binding ourselves to the paycheck...when in actual fact there is actually more to that.

I refer to this drive as a sort of hunger pang, that calls for an urgent need for satiation...aches for fulfillment in the mind & soul...a sort of ease that says 'ive done it'. Times this hunger reverts itself into instant fear, afraid not that my life will end (without havent done anything) BUT that it will never begin...Am so hungry for so so many things right now _ m over the sensible or what i thought was the sensible...M ready to LIVE.

And yes, the measure of our drives can never be the same _ we're all unique creatures afterall.
