As seen on a wall...

“To fall in love is easy, even to remain in it is not difficult; our human loneliness is cause enough. But it is a hard quest worth making to find a comrade through whose steady presence one becomes steadily the person one desires to be.”
― Anna Louise Strong

The things we learn as we grow...(older, wiser and more open)

1. You can never master the words of comfort when it comes to loss or pain..no one really knows what to say when the ones around us lose a job, a friend, a loved one or that feeling of security when they have been robbed.
2. You never stop longing for that part of your childhood when you felt safe, free or truly loved despite the bouts of tears you shed or the number of times you remember falling.
3. You never really forget how certain food seem to have lost that special flavour and you keep fighting to feel  that taste again.
4. Sadly not all friendships have a happy ever after and some exist on different levels and with time you learn to live peacefully with this truth and begin to distinguish between those who are in the roots or branch category of your life.
5. You will probably never be more blessed than with the family you have and the politics you share. Not everyone is meant to be part of a TV based nuclear family that seems to be without issues or challenges. You also learn that there are friends who you can truly add to your list of family members because that's how sincere the connection and sharing is.
6. You also learn that at some point in your life things will stop just easily falling into place and that working hard will be the best thing you ever do for yourself and the best legacy for your children.
7. You also learn that even though you will meet a few princes and princesses in your life certain experiences can never be duplicated and there will possibly ever be one special being who you will never cease to love and you will inexplicably never give up on.
8. You will also learn that sometimes being a young, single parent reality will move from once being a dark and feared concept to being a truly privileged place of growth and learning. You will see yourself, your family and the human will as an extraordinary blessing coupled with responsibility.
9. You will never forget the warmth of your Grandmother's hands.
10. You will make peace with the idea that you are not invincible and your best bet is to remain humble,   be honest with your strengths and weaknesses and know that we are all equally different with our own journeys so keep your standard of success, happiness and achievement.

Mind Over Matter: My Dissertation

This process is a good learning curve about commitment, to yourself, your own thoughts and voice, your sense of discipline and life in general. These are some of the things that this process has taught me;

1. It's always good to think and have ideas but the strength of what you are trying to achieve is better on paper in black and white.

2. It's important to be consistent, granted the body and the mind will tire and start playing tricks with you but consistency of work and thought helps. Not that I have mastered this but I've found in those periods where I have been consistent with myself to be the most freeing.

3. This will be a time of frequent tests, not only your writing ability will be tried but of patience and care. Everything, almost everything in your life will fall apart but having a constant flame nurtured and lit somewhere in your life helps. All I can say is thank the heavens for Kids.

I'm still learning and discovering, I have thoroughly enjoyed reading, researching and the general buzz of ideas. I do take movie breaks, a healthy internet connection is key, I do and have lost my way but I'll get there. The end is near and I'm sure it will be bittersweet.

The Call

“Let yourself be one of the God-mad,
Faithful only to the beauty you are.
Let the Lover pull you to your feet and hold you close,
Dancing even when fear urges you to sit this one out.”

A moment of light!

I need this screamed into my ear so loudly that every part of my being will absorb it, the road is tough and sometimes you wonder if it's worth it. You can't quit when you are almost at the end of the race. I doubt my strength these days, It's like I'm swimming in the ocean and waves keep coming some small and others leave you in darkness. The truth is though, there's always light and why I have to go through this when I know I'm Queen enough?! :) There are some battles that craft you so deeply it doesn't seem like you'll catch a full break.

Stella Jean

I'm in love with her clothes, particularly the swim wear collection.

All worth checking out here

I'm a sucker for good clothes, and seeing all this ankara prints everywhere reminds me of wanting a seshweshwe ball gown when I was a teen :)

Soon I hope.
